Trek to Cascada La Mina (La Mina Falls), a waterfall that represents the focal point of one of the park's most popular trails. The waterfall drops over 10.6 m (35 ft) through a maze of rocks and into a scenic pool surrounded by trees. Take a dip in the refreshing mountain water, or hang back to photograph the impressive scenery and the water feature that dominates it. The hike down to the waterfall takes between 30 and 45 minutes, with footbridges cutting across the river that feeds the waterfall several times. While the hike down can be easy enough in good conditions, the route back, uphill and including several sets of concrete stairs, can be tough. This is a beautiful waterfall and I think it is one of the most popular ones in Puerto Rico. Unfortunately it has been shut down since the Hurricane. It is located at the end of the most popular trail in the El Yunque National Forest. The trail follows the course of the La Mina river, passing many tiny Cascades and tiny pools filled with cold and clear mountain water. The trail begins at the Palo Colorado Information center located at PR 191, 12.2 KM mark. You will need special permission from the authorities to get there since it's the trail is closed down due to the hurricane.
Beautiful waterfall... Even though the walk can be a little long.
