Home to many different types of birds, Lagune de la Somone is a nature reserve on the banks of the Somone River. Spanning 7,000 hectares (12,297 acres), this protected area attracts various species of migrating birds, including pink flamingos, pelicans, herons, sea gulls, and egrets. A sandy stretch between the river and the baobab forest serves as a pleasant beach and a departure point for boat tours. You can watch fishermen bring their daily catch or visit one of the surrounding villages, as well as head to a nearby oyster farm to see how the locals live and work on a daily basis.     Lagoon not far from Saly. A lot of birds in the beginning of December, which you can see by taking an inexpensive boat trip (have cash!). There is no need to book anything in advance, plenty of boats waiting for clients there.
