Find your way to history in the former railway station which houses Sierra Leone National Museum. Established in 1957, the museum is full of indigenous cultural artifacts and modern day historical items such as photographs. The site displays the sometimes-painful history of the country and its people. See the hidden history of secret societies and the costumes people wore at the entrance of the local treasure trove; head deeper into the museum to see the timeline of slavery. • Loved the museum! Our tour guide was so friendly and had a lot great stories and information to give, he knew a lot about the history of Sierra Leone and the exhibits. It's amazing to see the history on display like this. It was only two rooms of exhibits plus the slavery section upstairs, but you can really take your time to understand it all. Some parts I'm sure could be improved and parts could have been cleaned and layed out with more space for each precious item, but I assume it's difficult to do everything with what I assume isn't a huge income. The slavery part upstairs was also really interesting and the information really well written, although obviously disturbing, but it's so important to understand that part of the world's history and it has such strong ties to Sierra Leone. I urge everyone to visit this museum!
  • The collection of masks and other cultural artefacts they have is really impressive.
