Visitors to Honiara Botanical Gardens can enjoy a series of pleasant woodland trails through this ecological treasure trove, the former site of World War II bases for Japanese and American troops. Make sure to stop at the grisly hanging site where capital punishment took place under British Colonial rule, as well as checking out the restored orchid house, which showcases the many orchid species found across the Islands. Guided tours are available, and a recently installed picnic area makes for a good excuse to refuel.
