Art Museum · Hidden Gem · Architectural Building
The Marquis of Cerralbo loved to collect items from the many museums he visited across Europe in the late 19th century and early 20th century, and today his Museo Cerralbo is home to some 50,000 objects. Inside the Marquis' former palace, view paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glass, tapestries, furniture, antique coins, drawings, engravings, clocks, arms, armor, and artifacts. The museum offers a few options for guided visits: an audio guide, a professional guide, or a volunteer cultural guide. The latter is available on a limited schedule, so check to see if volunteers are offering their service during your visit. • UK visitor. I've never seen so much stuff packed in to a relatively small place. In a nice way. Judy so dense with all sorts of collections from armoury to books to Arabian. Fantastic staircase and ceilings. Well worth a visit. Kids enjoyed ticking off objects on a sheet, 15 out of 10000. Very hard but help available for last few. Excellent.
  • This is a stupendous example of how the upper classes lived in 1850-1910. Spend an hour admiring the fully furnished rooms and imagining what life was like for the Marquee and his class. Highly recommend!
