National Archaeological Museum of Spain
Find out about ancient civilizations that inhabited Iberian peninsula from prehistory to the early Modern Age at National Archaeological Museum of Spain. Isabella II founded the museum in 1867 as a depository for various collections of the Spanish monarchs. Housed in a Neoclassical building, the museum features mostly Hispanic cultural remains, but also Roman mosaics, Greek pottery, and 8th-century votive crowns. The highlights include a replica of the prehistoric Altamira cave paintings of bison and boars and a bust of a wealthy Iberian woman dating back to 5th century BCE. The museum covers human history from 4 million BC to about 1200AD. It has short videos before each section that cover the major historical events during that time period. I want to find the videos and watch them later because they had a lot of good information. Almost everything is in both Spanish and English. You might want to see the museum over two days because it's hard to stay contemplative for four hours straight. Luckily tickets are only 3€ so it's not unreasonable to come back if you have the time. There's unfortunately not a ton of diversity in the collection because most of their artifacts are from burial sites. I'm guessing that's to be expected with archeology museums though so I can't fault then for that. They make up for it by describing the context around each piece and explaining why it's significant. So don't expect to get anything out of it by just looking at stuff.

Incredible place and the employees are very kind. The exhibition is very large and you need at least 3 to 4 hours to complete the tour. This taking enough time to appreciate the exhibitions calmly. It includes pieces from ancient Greece, Rome, Spain. And also of prehistoric times. You will love your visit to this museum. 100% recommended. Saturdays entrance is free.
