Trip Planner: Europe / Spain / Valencian Country / Province of Valencia / Valencia / Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias
Many visitors come to the city expressly for Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, an eye-catching cultural and architectural site that’s home to a science museum, opera house, planetarium, IMAX movie theater, and open-air oceanographic park, the largest such aquarium in Europe. Built in the 1990s at the end of the former riverbed of the Turia River, the futuristic complex was designed by renowned architects Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candela. The principal building, housing the science museum, is filled with hundreds of hands-on exhibits. Attendants can help you find your way around, or leave you alone to enjoy the displays at your own pace. Once you’ve had your fill of exhibits and jostling crowds, enjoy a stroll through the site’s gardens, featuring hundreds of plant species indigenous to this area. Visitors curious to learn the stories behind all the buildings in this giant complex are encouraged to book a guided walking tour. Put Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias and other Valencia attractions into our Valencia trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias reviews
Beautiful place to get some photos while in Valencia. Do this before going into the aquariums. It’s a little distance from the tour it’s area so you may want to rent a bike for the day. more »
The science museum is interesting. I suggest that if you are planning a one day with the oceangraphic, first visit this one so that you can have ample time at the aquarium. more »
A must see! I'm not much into museums but this place is not only beautiful but nice. For people interested in science, especially DNA and genetics is so much fun, lots of cool details. Take it slowly because to visit all sections may easily take more than a day. But it is completely worthy!
What a wonderful place to explore and photograph. We were there to enjoy the amazing architecture. We'll come back again to enter and see all the exhibits another visit. We spent the entire afternoon visiting the exterior of all of the buildings there together. This ensemble of buildings is the most innovative and distinctive collection of amazing architectural works I have ever seen. Truly a work of creative genious.
