Often a host to policy talks, legal seminars, and other events, Vredespaleis serves as the permanent home to the United Nations' International Court of Justice. The ornate building, topped by a tower, represents the culmination of international efforts at the turn of the 20th century to create an international forum to avoid war and conflict. Stop by the visitor center for information about the court and its daily workings or to learn more about the building and grounds themselves. Though not open to the public, you can access the institution by taking a guided tour and exploring the intricately decorated interior, replete with busts of famous figures, domed ceilings, and vaulted hallways. Be sure to check the website to see available tour times. One could not be faulted for the Peace Palace in the Hague as a Church front with a cursory first glance. This majestically constructed building is an international law administrative building in the Hague, Netherlands. And in the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the International Court of Justice, the Academy of International law and the Peace Palace Library. Unfortunately, our tour did not include a tour inside and apparently the security level and clearance would have made a tour our size redundant when all clearance and security checks are done, coupled with the fact that no recording device or camera is allowed in.
The Vredespaleis is the international law administrative building in The Hague, housing the International Court of Justice, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, The Hague Academy of International Law and the Peace Palace Library. While originally built to house the Permanent Court of Arbitration for settling international disputes, it grew to accommodate the other institutions. The court was in session, so I ended up only visiting the free to enter Visitors Centre of the Peace Palace, which houses an exhibition of the Peace Palace.
