The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims and Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum. Get a sense of the local culture at Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and Kofukuji Temple. There's much more to do: contemplate the long history of Suwa Shrine, get engrossed in the history at Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Catholic Church Hongouchi, and stroll around Nagasaki Peace Park.

Paris, France to Nagasaki is an approximately 19-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of train and flight. The time zone changes from Central European Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually an 8 hour difference. Plan for a bit warmer temperatures traveling from Paris in March, with highs in Nagasaki at 17°C and lows at 8°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 31st (Tue) to allow time to drive to Takachiho-cho.

The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
On the 1st (Wed), take in the spiritual surroundings of Kaguraden, then take in the dramatic scenery at Manai Falls, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Amano Iwato Shrine, and finally take in the pleasant sights at Amano Yasugawara.

You can drive from Nagasaki to Takachiho-cho in 3.5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or take a bus. In March, plan for daily highs up to 17°C, and evening lows to 6°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Wed) to allow time to drive to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Thu): let the kids burn off some steam at Ohori Park, contemplate the long history of Nanzoin, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kushida Shrine, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tochoji Temple.

You can drive from Takachiho-cho to Fukuoka in 2.5 hours. Another option is to take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 23°C in April, and nighttime lows around 13°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Thu) so you can travel to Yakushima-cho.

Kick off your visit on the 3rd (Fri): admire the verdant scenery at Yoggo Valley, get outside with Nagata Inakahama, and then identify plant and animal life at Anbo River. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 4th (Sat): indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens and then explore the wealth of natural beauty at Yakusugi Land.

Other options are to do a combination of train, flight, and taxi; or do a combination of train, ferry, and taxi. Traveling from Fukuoka in April, expect a bit warmer with lows of 17°C in Yakushima-cho. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Sat) so you can travel to Takamatsu.
