Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Kick off your visit on the 12th (Sat): browse the eclectic array of goods at Mercati di Rialto, then browse the different shops at T Fondaco Dei Tedeschi, then get to know the fascinating history of Piazza San Marco, and finally examine the collection at Doge's Palace. On the next day, take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, take in the spiritual surroundings of Scuola Grande di San Rocco, then pause for some serene contemplation at San Giorgio Maggiore, and finally admire the striking features of Basilica di San Marco.

Fly from Paris to Venice in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. Plan for a bit warmer temperatures traveling from Paris in September, with highs in Venice at 77°F and lows at 59°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Sun) to allow enough time to fly to Rome.

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Cupola di San Pietro and Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Colosseum and Centro Storico Associazione Centro Storico.
