A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
On the 20th (Tue), discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, then kick back and relax at Yonaha Maehama Beach, and then snap pictures at Irabu Bridge. On the next day, hunt for treasures at Atarasu Ichiba, then stroll through Sunayama Beach, and then identify plant and animal life at Yabiji.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Gion and Nara Park. Kyoto International Manga Museum and Forever Museum of Contemporary Art will appeal to museum buffs. Change things up with these side-trips from Kyoto: Todaiji Temple Cultural Center (in Nara) and Dotonbori (in Osaka). There's lots more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and make a trip to Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
