As the political and cultural capital of China, Beijing stands at the heart of Chinese history, buzzing with the energy of its high population density and centuries of importance.
Beijing Capital Museum and 798 Art Zone will appeal to museum buffs. Bring the kids along to Longqing Gorge and Temple of Confucius and Guozijian Museum. There's much more to do: take some stellar pictures from Jingshan Park (Jingshan Gongyuan), explore the ancient world of Simatai Great Wall, and explore the activities along Back Lakes (Hou Hai).

With a nickname like the "Pearl of the Orient," it's not surprising Shanghai offers some of the most rewarding attractions and activities in the Far East.
Start off your visit on the 20th (Sat): explore the activities along Huangpu River, take in the exciting artwork at Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre, then take a stroll through Tian Zi Fang, then wander the streets of Former French Concession, and finally see the interesting displays at Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. Keep things going the next day: take in the pleasant sights at Riverside Promenade (Bingjiang Da Dao), see the interesting displays at Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum, then take in panoramic vistas at Shanghai Tower, then take a stroll through Pudong New Area, and finally indulge your taste buds at Food & Drink.

Traveling by flight from Beijing to Shanghai takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. Traveling from Beijing in July, expect somewhat warmer with lows of 30°C in Shanghai. Cap off your sightseeing on the 21st (Sun) early enough to travel to Hong Kong.

Let the collections at Hong Kong Maritime Museum and Macao Museum capture your imagination. Head to City of Dreams and Tsim Sha Tsuifor some retail therapy. Change things up with these side-trips from Hong Kong: Macau (Skycab Cable Car (Wynn Palace) & Monte Forte (Fortaleza do Monte)). There's much more to do: pick up some new knowledge with Dialogue in the Dark Hong Kong, tour the pleasant surroundings at Repulse Bay Beach, head off the coast to Po Lin Monastery, and admire the natural beauty at Chi Lin Nunnery.

Historians often describe Xi'an, capital city for over a dozen dynasties, as the birthplace of Chinese civilization.
Kick off your visit on the 25th (Thu): take in the history at Xi'an Maryland Office of the Eighth Route Army Memorial Hall, take an in-depth tour of Forest of Stone Steles Museum, admire the local landmark of Dayan Pagoda Northern Square, then get engrossed in the history at Shaanxi History Museum, then admire the masterpieces at Tang Bo Art Museum, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Xi'an Bell Tower. On the next day, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Xi'an Mosque, examine the collection at Xi'an Museum, then take in panoramic vistas at Small Goose Pagoda, then browse the different shops at Golden Eagle International Mall (high-tech), and finally stroll the grounds of Tomb of Emperor Jingdi (Hanyangling).

Getting from Hong Kong to Xi'an by flight takes about 6.5 hours. Other options: take a train; or drive. Traveling from Hong Kong in July, expect slightly colder with lows of 26°C in Xi'an. Finish your sightseeing early on the 26th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel back home.
