As the political and cultural capital of China, Beijing stands at the heart of Chinese history, buzzing with the energy of its high population density and centuries of importance.
Mutianyu Great Wall and Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Panjiayuan Antique Market and Papp's Tea. There's much more to do: get engrossed in the history at The Palace Museum, pause for some photo ops at Chairman Mao Memorial Hall (Maozhuxi Jiniantang), and admire the striking features of Tiananmen Square (Tiananmen Guangchang).

With a nickname like the "Pearl of the Orient," it's not surprising Shanghai offers some of the most rewarding attractions and activities in the Far East.
Kick off your visit on the 31st (Sat): shop like a local with Nanjing Lu (Nanjing Road), then don't miss a visit to The Bund (Wai Tan), then see the interesting displays at Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan), and finally don't miss a visit to Oriental Pearl Tower (Dongfang Mingzhu). Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take in nature's colorful creations at Yu Garden (Yuyuan), view the masterpieces at Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre, then take a stroll through Former French Concession, and finally make a trip to Xintiandi.

Guangzhou

A massive metropolis and critical international trading hub, Guangzhou sprawls along the Pearl River, distinctly vibrant and cosmopolitan.
Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Mon): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sacred Heart Cathedral, step off the mainland to explore Shamian Island, and then stop by Beijing Road Raw Material For Medicine Shopping Mall.

Fly from Shanghai to Guangzhou in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. In August, daily temperatures in Guangzhou can reach 39°C, while at night they dip to 29°C. You will have some time to spend on the 3rd (Tue) before leaving for Hong Kong.

Witness the vibrant skyline of Hong Kong, an impressive urban territory on the southern coast of China.

A fairly humble collection of farming and fishing villages and towns until 1979, you wouldn't guess as much when taking a tour of Shenzhen.
On the 6th (Fri), examine the collection at Shenzhen Museum and then find something for the whole family at Shenzhen Window of the World.

Shenzhen is just a stone's throw from Hong Kong. In August, daily temperatures in Shenzhen can reach 37°C, while at night they dip to 30°C. On the 7th (Sat), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
