A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
Kick off your visit on the 8th (Fri): test the waters at a local thermal spa, take in the spiritual surroundings of Funadama Shrine, take in the awesome beauty at Mount Hakodate, take in panoramic vistas at Mt. Hakodate Observatory, then don't miss a visit to Hachimanzaka, and finally take a stroll through Motomachi. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 9th (Sat): browse the eclectic array of goods at Hakodate Morning Market, stop by Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, take in panoramic vistas at Goryokaku Tower, admire the landmark architecture of Goryokaku Park, then steep yourself in history at Goryokaku Dozo, and finally try your luck at Hakodate Horse Racetrack.

Bangkok, Thailand to Hakodate is an approximately 11.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone difference moving from Indochina Time (ICT) to Japan Standard Time (JST) is 2 hours. Traveling from Bangkok in May, things will get much colder in Hakodate: highs are around 18°C and lows about 11°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Sat) so you can travel to Sapporo.

A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Visiting Okurayama Lookout and Mt. Moiwa will get you outdoors. Head to Sapporo Underground Shopping Centre Aurora Town and Tanukikoji Shopping Streetfor plenty of shopping. Get out of town with these interesting Sapporo side-trips: Chitose (The North Country Golf Club & Former Osatsunuma) and Earth Dream Kakuyama Farm (in Ebetsu). There's still lots to do: walk around Odori Park, see the interesting displays at Miyabe Kingo Memorial Building, contemplate the long history of Sapporo Clock Tower, and take in panoramic vistas at Sapporo TV Tower.
