The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Shop till you drop at Dotombori and Naniwa Meibutsu Ichibirian Dotombori. Get some historical perspective at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo Castle. Venture out of the city with trips to Jishu Shrine (in Otsu) and Osaka Shiritsu Toyo Toji Museum (in Osaka). The adventure continues: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, contemplate the long history of Sanjusangendo Temple, explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, and wander the streets of Gion.

Onna-son

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Start off your visit on the 21st (Tue): see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, stop by Onna Station Nakayukui Market, then explore the historical opulence of Nakagusuku Castle Ruins, and finally step into the grandiose world of Shurijo Castle. Traveling by combination of bus and flight from Onna-son to Miyakojima takes 3.5 hours. In July, daily temperatures in Miyakojima can reach 37°C, while at night they dip to 31°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 24th (Fri) early enough to catch the ferry to Iriomote-jima.
