Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Nigatsu-do Temple and Kongobu-ji Temple. Shop till you drop at Dotombori District and Minami (Namba). You'll find plenty of places to visit near Osaka: Nara (Todai-ji Temple, Todaiji Temple Cultural Center, &more) and Koya-cho (Koyasan Daimon & Koyasan Danjo Garan). Next up on the itinerary: contemplate the long history of Osaka Castle, observe the fascinating underwater world at Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, see the interesting displays at Mint Museum, and don't miss a visit to Tempozan Ferris Wheel.
