You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Osaka (Osaka Castle, Dotonbori, &more). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, make a trip to Nijo Castle, take a stroll through Gion, and hike along Kyoto Isshu Trail, Higahiyama Fuahimi Inari Course.

Traveling by train from Kanazawa to Kyoto takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In May, plan for daily highs up to 29°C, and evening lows to 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Mon) to allow enough time to take a train to Himeji.

Start off your visit on the 12th (Tue): take in nature's colorful creations at Koko-en, make a trip to Himeji Castle, then don't miss a visit to Shoshazan Engyoji, and finally take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Takamikura.
