Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Nezu Shrine and Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Museum-lovers will get to explore Fire Museum and Nezu Museum. Change things up with these side-trips from Tokyo: Mt. Takao (in Hachioji) and Shirako Beach (in Shirako-machi). There's still lots to do: visit Ueno, make a trip to Shibuya Crossing, take in the spiritual surroundings of Asakusa Shrine, and take an in-depth tour of Kanda Myojin.

Rome, Italy to Tokyo is an approximately 17.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight. The time zone changes from Central European Time (CET) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually an 8 hour difference. Expect a bit cooler weather when traveling from Rome in June: highs in Tokyo hover around 30°C, while lows dip to 22°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Fri) early enough to catch the train to Kamakura.

Once a small fishing town, Yokohama was one of the first ports to welcome foreign trade in the 19th century, after which it grew into Japan's second largest city and a bustling metropolis.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Sun): identify plant and animal life at Yokohama Nature Sanctuary, examine the collection at HARA Model Railway Museum, and then appreciate the extensive heritage of Kishamichi Promenade.
