The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
For shopping fun, head to Dotombori District or Toraya Kyoto Gallery. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Nara Park and Kinkaku-ji. Venture out of the city with trips to Todaiji Temple Cultural Center (in Nara) and Osaka Shiritsu Toyo Toji Museum (in Osaka). The adventure continues: step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, stop by Gion, admire the masterpieces at Hosomi Museum, and take an in-depth tour of Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design.

You can fly from Kyoto to Iriomote-jima in 7.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, bus, and ferry. Traveling from Kyoto in July, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Iriomote-jima, with lows of °C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Thu) so you can catch the ferry to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Start off your visit on the 3rd (Fri): see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, kick back and relax at Yonehara Beach, and then explore the activities along Kabira Bay. On the next day, enjoy the sand and surf at Kaiji Beach, kick back and relax at Kondoi Beach, get a taste of the local shopping with Nei Museum of Art, get engrossed in the history at Ishigaki Yaima Village, thenexamine the collection at MInsah Kogei Museum, and finally stop by Yurateiku Market.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Sunayama Beach and Aragusuku Beach. Do some cultural sightseeing at Yukishio Museum and Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse.
