Get some cultural insight at Tenryuji Temple and Nanzen-ji Temple. Explore hidden gems such as Kasuga Grand Shrine and Toji. Change things up with these side-trips from Kyoto: Nara (Mt. A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
On the 31st (Sat), explore the gorgeous colors at Yabiji, take in the views from Irabu Ohashi, kick back and relax at Toguchi no Hama, then enjoy the sand and surf at Yonaha Maehama Beach, then paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, and finally get outside with Sunayama Beach. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: snap pictures at Ikema Ohashi Bridge, head off the coast to Shimojiiima Island, then visit a coastal fixture at Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, then don't miss a visit to East Henna Cape, and finally get outside with Aragusuku Beach.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Kyoto to Miyakojima takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of tram and flight; or do a combination of bus and flight. In October, Miyakojima is a bit warmer than Kyoto - with highs of 33°C and lows of 28°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Sun) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

When traveling from Iriomote-jima in November, plan for cooler days and little chillier nights in Nikko: temperatures range from 15°C by day to 13°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
