Takayama

Hidden high up in the Japanese Alps, Takayama remained largely cut off from the rest of Japan for centuries, allowing the local culture to grow in relative isolation.
On the 15th (Fri), contemplate the long history of Takayama Jinya, then don't miss a visit to Hida Minzoka Mura Folk Village (Hida no Sato), then take in the pleasant sights at Norikura Summit Tatamidaira, and finally get advice or help at Takayama City Hall. Keep things going the next day: take in the dramatic scenery at Osakacho Waterfalls, then look for gifts at Hida Bussankan, then get to know the fascinating history of Shirakabe Dozogai, and finally examine the collection at Takayama Showa Museum.
