Kick off your visit on the 20th (Sat): admire the natural beauty at Koko-en, step into the grandiose world of Himeji Castle, then don't miss a visit to Shoshazan Engyoji, then contemplate the long history of Nishi no Maru, and finally steep yourself in history at Yoneda Taishiji Temple.

You can take a train from Hiroshima to Himeji in an hour. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of bus and train. In March, plan for daily highs up to 14°C, and evening lows to 7°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Sat) early enough to catch the train to Kyoto.

Explore Kyoto's surroundings by going to Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan (in Osaka) and Akamon Oneribei (in Nishinomiya). Next up on the itinerary: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, take in the spiritual surroundings of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and don't miss a visit to Nijo Castle.

Traveling by train from Himeji to Kyoto takes an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 16°C in March, and nighttime lows around 5°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Tue) to allow time to take a train to Kanazawa.

Traveling by train from Kyoto to Kanazawa takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. While traveling from Kyoto, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Kanazawa, ranging from highs of 13°C to lows of 3°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 25th (Thu) early enough to catch the train to Tokyo.
