Known nationally as an industrial heartland, Nagoya boasts a far more cosmopolitan and cultural core than its reputation would lead you to believe.
Kick off your visit on the 28th (Sat): examine the collection at Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, then get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium, and then walk around Chubu Park. Keep things going the next day: take in nature's colorful creations at Jozanen and then let little ones run wild at Kasumi Yumekujira Park.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Nagoya in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or fly. When traveling from Tokyo in March, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Nagoya: temperatures range from 13°C by day to 7°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 29th (Sun) to allow time to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Change things up with a short trip to Todai-ji Temple in Nara (about 1 hour away). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, tour the pleasant surroundings at Nanzen-ji Temple, and step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle.

Traveling by train from Nagoya to Kyoto takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In March, plan for daily highs up to 16°C, and evening lows to 5°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 2nd (Thu) early enough to catch the train to Hiroshima.
