Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Head to Dotombori District and Tower Knives Osakafor plenty of shopping. Discover out-of-the-way places like Koyasan Danjo Garan and Torodo Temple. Get out of town with these interesting Osaka side-trips: Mt. Kongo (in Chihayaakasaka-mura) and Mt. Yoshino (in Yoshino-cho). And it doesn't end there: explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, go for a walk through Midosuji Street, and shop like a local with Hankyu Umeda Honten.

Singapore, Singapore to Osaka is an approximately 10-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. The time zone difference moving from Singapore Standard Time to Japan Standard Time is 1 hour. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Explore hidden gems such as Kitano Tenmangu Shrine and Kennin-ji Temple. Escape the urban bustle at Amanohashidate and Mt. Kurama. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Genkoan, hunt for treasures at Nishiki Market Shopping District, and wander the streets of Gion.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Mt Shosha hiking and Koko-en. Head to Piole Himeji and Yamasa Kamaboko Yumesenkanfor some retail therapy. Venture out of the city with trips to Ritsuun Gorge (in Asago) and Old Shizutani School (in Bizen).
