On the 9th (Sun), contemplate the long history of Itsukushima Shrine, steep yourself in history at Itsukushima Shrine Torii, then step off the mainland to explore Miyajima, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Mikasahama Beach.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Universal Studios Japan and Nara Park. Get a sense of the local culture at Gion and Dotonbori. When in Kyoto, make a side trip to see Kofuku-ji Temple in Nara, approximately 1h 05 min away. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, don't miss a visit to Heian Shrine, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.
