Tourism in Shari-cho, a small town situated on Hokkaido's eastern tip, flourishes mainly because of its immediate proximity to the Shiretoko World Heritage Site.
On the 3rd (Sat), get outside with Road to Heaven, then explore the striking landscape of Shiretoko Nature Center, then take in the dramatic scenery at Kamuiwakka Hot Waterfall, and finally contemplate the waterfront views at Shiretoko Goko Lake.

Montreal, Canada to Shari-cho is an approximately 27- hour combination of flight and car. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 14 hour difference. Traveling from Montreal in August, you will find days in Shari-cho are little chillier (26°C), and nights are about the same (20°C). Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Sat) to allow enough time to travel to Miyakojima.

Miyakojima

Miyakojima
A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Explore hidden gems such as Aragusuku Beach and Sunayama Beach. Escape the urban bustle at Toguchi no Hama and Scuba & Snorkeling. There's still lots to do: identify plant and animal life at Yabiji, enjoy the sand and surf at Yonaha Maehama Beach, don't miss a visit to East Henna Cape, and take in the views from Irabu Ohashi.

Traveling by combination of taxi and flight from Shari-cho to Miyakojima takes 9 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and flight. Traveling from Shari-cho in August, things will get a bit warmer in Miyakojima: highs are around 37°C and lows about 31°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Tue) to allow enough time to ride a ferry to Iriomote-jima.

Yakushima-cho

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
Get in touch with nature at Yakusugi Land and Tachudake. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley and Oko no Taki Fall. There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Wilson Stump.
