Set among the picturesque peaks and glacially carved fiords of Fiordland National Park, Te Anau offers those wishing to explore the park a great place to stay and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of a small town in an enviable location.
Get outdoors at The Chasm Walk and Te Anau Glowworm Caves. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Kayaking & Canoeing and Lake Te Anau. There's still lots to do: explore the activities along Milford Sound and identify plant and animal life at Te Anau Bird Sanctuary.

Sheltered in an inlet of Lake Wakatipu, the resort town of Queenstown enjoys a strong reputation for its adventuring and skiing opportunities.
Arrowtown Chinese Settlement and Rippon Vineyard are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Step out of the city life by going to Queenstown Hill and River Rafting & Tubing. Step out of Queenstown with an excursion to Lake Wanaka in Wanaka--about 1h 15 min away. There's still lots to do: get outside with Arrowtown Village, take the plunge with a skydiving experience, push the limits with an extreme tour, and fly like a bird with a parasailing or paragliding tour.

Getting from Te Anau to Queenstown by car takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: take a bus. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 5th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel to Paihia.
