As the political and cultural capital of China, Beijing stands at the heart of Chinese history, buzzing with the energy of its high population density and centuries of importance.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Huanghuacheng Water Great Wall Ticket Office and Eight Great Temples (Ba Da Chu Park). Step off the beaten path and head to Gong Wang Fu and Inner Court. With a nickname like the "Pearl of the Orient," it's not surprising Shanghai offers some of the most rewarding attractions and activities in the Far East.
Zhouzhuang Boat and Landscape Architecture will appeal to history buffs. Step out of the city life by going to Chongming Dongtan Birds National Nature Reserve and Biking Trail-China Outside Adventure. Take a break from Shanghai with a short trip to Jinxi Ancient Town in Kunshan, about 1h 25 min away. There's much more to do: relax and rejuvenate at Gokurakuyu, steep yourself in history at Soong Ching-ling Memorial Residence, see the interesting displays at Aurora Museum, and take a stroll through Taikang Road.

Getting from Beijing to Shanghai by flight takes about 4.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of shuttle and flight; or drive. Traveling from Beijing in March, Shanghai is somewhat warmer at night with lows of 8°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 20th (Fri) so you can go by car to Huangshan.

Named after the "Yellow Mountains" with which the region has long been associated, Huangshan offers access to UNESCO-listed sites both natural and man-made.
Start off your visit on the 21st (Sat): take in the awesome beauty at Qingtan Peak and then explore the activities along Fuxi Tianhu Lake. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Qiyun Mountain and then contemplate the long history of Former Residence of Cheng Dawei.

Traveling by car from Shanghai to Huangshan takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and taxi; or take a train. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Sun) to allow enough time to travel to Hong Kong.
