Let the collections at Tokyo National Museum and Ghibli Museum Mitaka capture your imagination. Do some cultural sightseeing at Sensō-ji and The Hakone Open-Air Museum. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Nijo Castle and Sanjusangendo Temple. For shopping fun, head to Dotonbori or Hayakawa Hamonoten. Venture out of the city with trips to Osaka Castle (in Osaka) and Nara (Todaiji Temple Cultural Center & Nara Park). And it doesn't end there: wander the streets of Gion, make a trip to Heian Shrine, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, and steep yourself in history at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Kyoto in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In April, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 22°C, while at night they dip to 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Sat) so you can take a train to Hiroshima.

Start off your visit on the 28th (Sun): see the interesting displays at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, take an in-depth tour of Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, and then steep yourself in history at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. On the 29th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: step off the mainland to explore Miyajima, then steep yourself in history at Itsukushima Shrine, and then stop by Itsukushima Gekijyo.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Kick off your visit on the 30th (Tue): kick back and relax at Hora Gyoko no Hama Beach, then enjoy the sand and surf at Aragusuku Beach, and then stroll through Tomori Imugya Beach. Keep things going the next day: kick back and relax at Yonaha Maehama Beach and then kick back and relax at Sunayama Beach.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Hiroshima to Miyakojima takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. Traveling from Hiroshima in April, expect Miyakojima to be somewhat warmer, temps between 29°C and 23°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 1st (Wed) so you can travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
You'll get in some beach time at Yonehara Beach and Shiraho Beach. Head to Pinion Direct Shop and Nei Museum of Artfor plenty of shopping. The adventure continues: kick back and relax at Kondoi Beach, enjoy the sea views from Cape Hirakubozaki, stroll through Akashi Beach, and cruise along Nagurao Bridge.

Getting from Miyakojima to Ishigaki by flight takes about 2 hours. In May, daily temperatures in Ishigaki can reach 34°C, while at night they dip to 28°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
