Shop till you drop at Gyaruri Momogusa and Mitsui Outlet Park Jazz Dream Nagashima. Visit Ise Grand Shrine and Nagoya Castle for their historical value. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Nagoya: Ise (Kutsurogiya, Meotoiwa, & more), Mikimoto Pearl Island (in Toba) and Nakasendo Walking Trail, Tsumagojuku (in Nagiso-machi). Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 14th (Wed) at Kur Resort Yubunesawa. And it doesn't end there: examine the collection at Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, look for all kinds of wild species at Cherry Trees along the Gojo River bank, contemplate the waterfront views at Yamazaki River, and engage your brain at Nagoya City Science Museum.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
On the 16th (Fri), get a taste of the local shopping with Nishiki Market Shopping District and then take a stroll through Gion. Here are some ideas for day two: step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, see the interesting displays at Kyoto International Manga Museum, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and finally explore the world behind art at Hosomi Museum.

You can take a train from Nagoya to Kyoto in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Nagoya in August, plan for somewhat warmer days in Kyoto, with highs around 39°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 29°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sun) so you can catch the train to Kobe.
