While traveling from Venice, expect a bit warmer days and much hotter nights in Lampedusa, ranging from highs of 20°C to lows of 17°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Fri) early enough to travel to Syracuse.

Philosopher Cicero once described Syracuse as "the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of them all." A powerful city-state of ancient Greece, Syracuse now is the capital of the eponymous Italian province on the eastern coast of Sicily.
On the 7th (Sat), Head underground at Ear of Dionysius (Orecchio di Dionisio), learn about winemaking at Azienda Agricola Pupillo, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at San Francesco d'Assisi all'Immacolata, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Syracuse Cathedral.

Getting from Lampedusa to Syracuse by combination of flight and train takes about 4 hours. Other options: do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry and bus. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 7th (Sat) so you can go by car to Palermo.

Duomo di Monreale and Duomo di Cefalu are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Parco Archeologico di Selinunte and Poggioreale will appeal to history buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Palermo side-trips: Spiaggia di Macari (in Macari) and Riserva Naturale Orientata dello Zingaro (in Castellammare del Golfo).
