Get out of town with these interesting Kagoshima side-trips: Minamikyushu (Bandokorobana Park, Tokoshieni, Tokkoyushi Statue, &more), Ibusuki (Former Yamagawa Salt Manufacturer, Lake Ikeda, &more) and Kirishima (Kareigawa Station, Kirishima Shrine, &more). A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
Yakushima-cho is known for nature, baths, and trails. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: take in breathtaking views at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley, head outdoors with Seibu Trail, take in the dramatic scenery at Oko no Taki Fall, and don't miss a visit to Taikoiwa.

Kanoya is a city in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. Start off your visit on the 1st (Wed): examine the collection at Kanoya Air Base Museum, admire the natural beauty at Kanoya Rose Garden, get in on the family fun at Kirishimagaoka Park, thensoak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens, and finally go for a walk through Tarumizu Sembon Ginkgo Garden. On your second day here, go for a walk through Kamikawa Otaki Park, thenadmire the sheer force of Kamikawaotaki Falls, thenexplore the different monuments and memorials at Aira Sanryo, and finally steep yourself in history at Arahira Tenzin Shrine.
