Head to Ginza and Takeshita Streetfor some retail therapy. Let the collections at Edo-Tokyo Museum and Kawaguchiko Muse Museum, Atae Yuki Bldg. capture your imagination. Kyoto

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Escape the urban bustle at Geisha and Maiko Makeover Experience in Kyoto Gion Aya and Kyoto Kimono Rental Sakura. Shop till you drop at Nishiki Market Shopping District and Nishijin Textile Center. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Nagaokakyo Municipal Nakayama Shuichi Memorial Museum (in Nagaokakyo) and Obakusan Manpuku - ji Temple (in Uji). And it doesn't end there: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, visit Gion, examine the collection at Kyoto International Manga Museum, and don't miss a visit to Nijo Castle.

Getting from Tokyo to Kyoto by train takes about 3.5 hours. Other options: fly; or drive. In June, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 32°C, while at night they dip to 22°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 27th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Osaka.

Osaka
