Miyakojima
A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Visit Sunayama Beach and Yonaha Maehama Beach for some beach relaxation. Step out of the city life by going to Aragusuku Beach and Toguchi no Hama. The adventure continues: step off the mainland to explore Shimojiiima Island, take in the views from Irabu Bridge, explore the striking landscape at Boraga Limestone Cave, and don't miss a visit to East Henna Cape.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Kyoto to Miyakojima takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and flight. In April, Miyakojima is somewhat warmer than Kyoto - with highs of 29°C and lows of 23°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 10th (Wed) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Visit Cape Hirakubozaki and Ishigaki Yaima Village for their historical value. Visit Kondoi Beach and Kaiji Beach for some beach relaxation. The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
Kick off your visit on the 14th (Sun): go for a walk through Amanoyasu Kawara, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Amano Iwato Shrine, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kaguraden, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Takachiho Shrine, and finally explore the stunning scenery at Takachiho Gorge.

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
Visiting Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley and Nagata Inakahama will get you outdoors. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Wilson Stump and Ushidokomoisho. Spend the 16th (Tue) exploring nature at Yakusugi Land. There's more to do: take in the dramatic scenery at Janokuchinotaki Falls and make a trip to Jōmon Sugi.
