The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Kick off your visit on the 10th (Sat): tour the pleasant surroundings at Ohori Park, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kushida Shrine, then admire the landmark architecture of Hakata Station, and finally enjoy breathtaking views from Komenoyama Obsevatory. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 11th (Sun): make a trip to Kokura Castle, then admire the natural beauty at Komyozen-ji Temple, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Dazaifu Tenman-gu, and finally buy something for everyone on your list at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center.

You can drive from Beppu to Takachiho-cho in 2.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of train and taxi; or do a combination of train and bus.
