Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Take a break from the city and head to Canal Grande and Lido Beach. Popular historic sites such as Peggy Guggenheim Collection and Porta della Carta are in your itinerary. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Venice: Padua (Basilica di Sant’Antonio - Basilica del Santo & Scrovegni Chapel). There's much more to do: appreciate the extensive heritage of St. Mark's Square, admire the masterpieces at Gallerie dell'Accademia, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo (San Zanipolo).

Melbourne, Australia to Venice is an approximately 25-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train.
