Boekhandel Dominicanen and Kasteel Hoensbroek will appeal to history buffs. Take a break from the city and head to Maastricht Underground and Golfcourse Het Rijk van Margraten. Go for a jaunt from Maastricht to Heerlen to see Brunssummerheide about 34 minutes away. The capital of Dutch industrial design, Eindhoven is known as the "City of Light." This is thanks to the technology company, Phillips, which has its base here and hosts many light projects in buildings around the city.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at World Heritage Kinderdijk and Natuur-reservaat Ooijpolder-De Vlietberg Nijmegen. Get in touch with nature at Regte Heide & Riels Laag and Baardwijkse Overlaat. Get out of town with these interesting Eindhoven side-trips: Park Merwestein (in Dordrecht), Nationaal Park De Maasduinen (in Well) and Efteling (in Kaatsheuvel).
