Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel will appeal to museum buffs. Trastevere and Piazza Navona are good opportunities to explore the local culture. There's much more to do: delve into the distant past at Palatine Hill, admire the landmark architecture of Pantheon, make a trip to Trevi Fountain, and explore the world behind art at Galleria Borghese.
