Portoferraio is a town and comune in the province of Livorno, on the edge of the eponymous harbour of the island of Elba. For shopping fun, head to Gulliver - Terre d'Autore or Il Mondo di Wit. Take a break from the city and head to Percorso dell'Enfola and G.T.E. (Grande Traversata Elbana). Get out of town with these interesting Portoferraio side-trips: Spiaggia di Chiessi (in Chiessi) and Capoliveri (Monte Calamita, Centro Subacqueo Il Corsaro, &more). There's lots more to do: hike along Capo Stella, stroll through Walking trail to Spiaggia della Biodola, identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, and enjoy the sand and surf at Spiaggia di Calanova.

Perugia to Portoferraio is an approximately 4.5-hour combination of car and ferry. You can also do a combination of train and ferry; or do a combination of bus, train, and ferry. In February in Portoferraio, expect temperatures between 12°C during the day and 7°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Sun) early enough to catch the ferry to Piombino.
