With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Step off the beaten path and head to Culebrita Island and Carlos Rosario Beach. Isla de Vieques

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Step off the beaten path and head to Stand-Up Paddleboarding and Horseback Riding Tours. And it doesn't end there: enjoy the sand and surf at La Chiva, stroll through Media Luna Beach, take in the waterfront at Mosquito Pier, and explore the ancient world of El Hombre de Puerto Ferro.

You can do a combination of flight and car from Culebra to Isla de Vieques in 2.5 hours. Another option is to ride a ferry. Rincon

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Horseback Riding Tours and Los Morrillos Lighthouse. Get out of town with these interesting Rincon side-trips: Parroquia San Jose De La Montana (in Lares), Playa Sucia (in Cabo Rojo) and Crashboat Beach (in Aguadilla). There's much more to do: identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, enjoy the sea views from El Faro Lighthouse, enjoy the sand and surf at Domes Beach, and make a trip to Monumento al Cacique Mabodamaca.

Traveling by car from El Yunque National Forest to Rincon takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of shuttle and flight; or do a combination of shuttle and car. In February in Rincon, expect temperatures between 34°C during the day and 28°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 7th (Fri) so you can go by car to Ponce.

Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. Discover out-of-the-way places like River Rafting & Tubing and Museo de Arte de Ponce.
