Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Kondoi Beach and Yonehara Beach. Take a break from the city and head to Prime Scuba Ishigaki Diving Center - Day Tour and Cape Hirakubozaki. There's much more to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Nosoko Mape, don't miss a visit to Rhizophoraceae Plant Community of Fukidogawa River, take a leisurely stroll along Nishi Pier, and kick back and relax at Sunset Beach.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Take a break from the city and head to Sunayama Beach and Yabiji. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Aragusuku Beach and Toguchi no Hama. The adventure continues: take a memorable tour with Tours, get outside with Yonaha Maehama Beach, enjoy the sand and surf at Nagamahama Beach Coast, and snap pictures at Irabu Ohashi.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Pontocho District and Naniwa Meibutsu Ichibirian Dotombori. Head to Dotombori District and Minami (Namba)for some retail therapy. Step out of Kyoto to go to Osaka and see Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, which is approximately 1h 25 min away. And it doesn't end there: contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, take a stroll through Gion, make a trip to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle.

Fly from Yakushima-cho to Kyoto in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and train; or do a combination of ferry, bus, and train. In August in Kyoto, expect temperatures between 39°C during the day and 29°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 21st (Sat) so you can travel to Tokyo.
