Lyon

— 31 nights

Culinary Capital of France

Lyon is a historical city with a vibrant cultural scene as the birthplace of cinema, the silk capital of the globe, and the second biggest Renaissance city following Venice.
Step off the beaten path and head to Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon and Cathedrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Lyon. Venture out of the city with trips to Les Grottes de La Balme (in La Balme-les-Grottes), Cite medievale de Perouges (in Perouges) and Clermont-Ferrand (L'Aventure Michelin & Cathedrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption). There's still lots to do: admire the striking features of Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere, don't miss a visit to Mur des Canuts, scramble along the landscape with a canyoning and rapelling tour, and explore the historical opulence of Chateau de Tournoel.

For reviews, other places to visit, ratings, and tourist information, refer to the Lyon journey builder website.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport, Saint-Étienne-Bouthéon Airport, Grenoble-Isère Airport and Chambéry-Savoie Airport. In August, daily temperatures in Lyon can reach 82°F, while at night they dip to 61°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 29th (Tue) to allow time to travel back home.
