Gateway to Provence

The 2013 European "Capital of Culture," Marseille is the largest port city on the breezy Mediterranean coast and the second largest city in France.
Explore Marseille's surroundings by going to Carrieres des Lumieres (in Les Baux de Provence), Arenes de Nimes (in Nimes) and Pont du Gard (in Vers-Pont-du-Gard). Spend the 31st (Sun) exploring nature at Parc National des Calanques. There's lots more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, explore the striking landscape at Calanques, take a leisurely stroll along Le Vieux Port, and get engrossed in the history at Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations.
