Rising to prominence under feudal rule in the 16th century, the city of Nagahama sits in the northeast Shiga Prefecture, on the shores of Lake Biwa.
On the 3rd (Fri), take in nature's colorful creations at Keiunakan Garden, take in the spiritual surroundings of Jiunzan Kogen Temple, then contemplate the long history of Kodakamikaku Sedaikaku, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Shakudoji Temple, and finally get to know the fascinating history of Kinomotojuku. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take in the pleasant sights at Kurokabe Square, then contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Biwa, then fly down the slopes at Hakodateyama Ski Park, and finally have fun at Makino Highland.

Kyoto to Nagahama is an approximately 1.5-hour car ride. While traveling from Kyoto, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Nagahama, ranging from highs of 7°C to lows of 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Hikone.

A small city on the shores of the country's largest lake, Hikone draws in visitors with its fine castle.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Sun): explore the historical opulence of Hikone Castle, examine the collection at Hikone Castle Museum, contemplate the long history of Rakuraku Garden, admire the striking features of 玄宮園 - Genkyūen Garden 玄宮園, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Soanji Temple, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Taga Taisha.
