Rising to prominence under feudal rule in the 16th century, the city of Nagahama sits in the northeast Shiga Prefecture, on the shores of Lake Biwa.
Start off your visit on the 3rd (Fri): admire the natural beauty at Keiunakan Garden, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Jiunzan Kogen Temple, contemplate the long history of Kodakamikaku Sedaikaku, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Shakudoji Temple, and finally get to know the fascinating history of Kinomotojuku. Keep things going the next day: appreciate the extensive heritage of Kurokabe Square, contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Biwa, then hit the slopes at Hakodateyama Ski Park, and finally stroll around Makino Highland.

When traveling from Kyoto in January, plan for little chillier days in Nagahama, with highs around 7°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 1°C.
