Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Shop till you drop at Makurazaki Fish Center and Michi-no-Eki Iokaido. Appreciate the collections at Sora Stage and Satsuma Students Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to Kirishima (The Hundred Year Sulfur Valley, Kareigawa Station, &more), Ebino (Ebino Kogen & Rokkannon Miike Pond) and Miyakonojo (Miike Shrine, Takachihonomine, &more). There's lots more to do: explore the activities along Fushime Coast, see the interesting displays at Ishibashi Park, take in the dramatic scenery at Kamikawaotaki Falls, and stroll around Chiran Heiwa Park.

If you are flying in from Mongolia, the closest major aiport is Kagoshima Airport. Expect a daytime high around °C in February, and nighttime lows around °C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 27th (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
