Kagoshima

— 40 nights

Naples of the East

Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Shop till you drop at Michi-no-Eki Iokaido and Iso Kogeikan. Appreciate the collections at Sora Stage and Satsuma Students Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to Kirishima (The Hundred Year Sulfur Valley, Kareigawa Station, &more), Miyakonojo (Miike Shrine, Takachihonomine, &more) and Ebino (Ebino Kogen & Rokkannon Miike Pond). There's lots more to do: explore the activities along Fushime Coast, see the interesting displays at Ishibashi Park, delve into the distant past at Old Masuda Residence, and make a trip to Kamo Hachiman Shrine.

For more things to do, photos, maps, and other tourist information, go to the Kagoshima day trip website.

If you are flying in from Mongolia, the closest major aiport is Kagoshima Airport. In February, daytime highs in Kagoshima are 13°C, while nighttime lows are 2°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 27th (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
