With a nickname like the "Pearl of the Orient," it's not surprising Shanghai offers some of the most rewarding attractions and activities in the Far East.
On the 13th (Fri), spend a fun day on foot with Walking tours. There's much more to do: go for a walk through The Bund (Wai Tan), browse the different shops at South Bund Soft Spinning Material Market, enjoy breathtaking views from Shanghai World Financial Center, and appreciate the history behind Jade Buddha Temple.

You can fly from Beijing to Shanghai in 5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or drive. Expect somewhat warmer evenings in Shanghai when traveling from Beijing in August, with lows around 30°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Tue) so you can travel to Guangzhou.

Shenzhen

A fairly humble collection of farming and fishing villages and towns until 1979, you wouldn't guess as much when taking a tour of Shenzhen.
Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Shenzhen: Macau (Hac-Sa Reservoir Country Park, Coloane, &more). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Nanling Village of Shenzhen and enjoy the sand and surf at Dongyong Beach.
