Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Museo Nazionale Romano - Palazzo Massimo alle Terme and Villa Farnesina will appeal to museum buffs. Piazza Venezia and Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri are good opportunities to explore the local culture. And it doesn't end there: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Abbey of St. Paul Outside the Walls, see the interesting displays at Stanze di Raffaello, pause for some serene contemplation at Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola, and steep yourself in history at Basilica Papale San Paolo fuori le Mura.

To find photos, other places to visit, where to stay, and more tourist information, you can read our Rome trip planner.
