Sarlat-la-Caneda is the capital of the former Périgord Noir, now referred to as the Aquitaine region that is home to a historical area consisting of impeccably preserved 14th-century buildings and sites.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Sarlat-la-Caneda: Cite Religieuse (in Rocamadour) and Gouffre de Padirac (in Padirac). And it doesn't end there: steep yourself in history at Chateau de Castelnaud, take in nature's colorful creations at Les Jardins de Marqueyssac, make a trip to Vieux Sarlat, and see the interesting displays at Lascaux Caves 4.

For traveler tips, more things to do, maps, and tourist information, refer to the Sarlat-la-Caneda day trip planning site.

If you are flying in from Australia, the closest major aiports are Bergerac-Roumanière Airport, Limoges Airport and Toulouse-Blagnac Airport. In August in Sarlat-la-Caneda, expect temperatures between 32°C during the day and 15°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 18th (Tue) early enough to travel back home.
