Otsu

The lake port city of Otsu has a wealth of sites of historical and cultural importance and lies within close proximity to Kyoto.
Explore Otsu's surroundings by going to Miho Museum (in Koka), Hikone Castle (in Hikone) and Nagahama (Kurokabe Square & Chikubushima). There's much more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ishiyamadera Temple, make a trip to Hachiman-bori, get in on the family fun at Lake Biwa Kodomonokuni, and fly down the slopes at Biwako Valley.

For other places to visit, where to stay, reviews, and other tourist information, go to the Otsu trip maker.

Tokyo to Otsu is an approximately 3.5-hour train ride. You can also fly; or drive. In June, daytime highs in Otsu are 32°C, while nighttime lows are 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
